Guilford pet shop owner says business taqrgeted by animal rights activists

GUILFORD — When Tara Fleming moved her family to town last September she had great plans.

Fleming said she has received thousands of emails blasting her for selling puppies in her shop.

Fleming said on the group's website is a petition to end puppy mill sales, and she believes her email got linked to the petition.

"I got targeted.

Fleming, who owns two pet stores in Pennsylvania, opened her third shop, Yuppy Puppy LLC, in the Shoreline Plaza at 858 Boston Post Road.

She said she has been targeted by a group of animal activists, CT Citizens Against Puppy Mills.

But her business, she said, has not met with the success her Pennsylvania shops have experienced.

Repeated attempts to reach the group have failed.
