The Adopt-A-Shelter Pet license plates went on sale in January of 2011.
The CPOF awards the money to animal shelters and rescue groups to supply medical care and microchip identification.
A spokesman for the CPOF said during the first full year of sales, they generated $100,000.
At present, there are 28 license plates in the "Group Special Plates" category.
The Colorado Rockies charitable organization is hoping to get on the band wagon.
A bill in the Colorado legislature would create a special plate for the professional baseball team.

Furry Friends, a brand new Hospice dog therapy group, is helping bring love to Hospice patients. Some of the therapy dogs are actually rescue dogs using their second chance to help others, but not every dog can become a therapy dog. Now with 17 certified therapy dogs, organizers say the program is really starting to take off. Pet therapy animals are also not for every patient. "Dogs never stop needing to eat," he said. To test his theory, Mr. Zhardanovsky and his co-founder, Joe Speiser, set up a online profile in 2009 with a form that asked customers if they would be interested in signing up for regular deliveries. It stops making sense when you try to do something like a tree-of-the-month club, which doesn't fit either of those categories. " Taking his own advice, Mr. Lee recently founded another subscription-based business, this one with Jessica Alba, the actress. It is called the Honest Company , and it ships diapers and other baby products. By state law, commercial kennels, pet shops, grooming facilities and training facilities must be licensed by the agriculture commissioner.
